The situation has changed — The Division 2 has returned to active development, and Ubisoft is officially working on the third installment.
Interestingly, only five people are involved in the "reboot" of The Division 2. Pallé Hoffstein from Massive Entertainment said that the tiny team was tasked with creating "something bigger and more lasting."
"I was involved in two major comebacks — Rainbow Six Siege and The Division 2. But in the second part, we started with five people! It was crazy, but also an amazing experience."
The team laid the foundation for the largest update in the game's history. The developers initially did not want to revive the project for only a couple of years, but set a goal to strengthen the franchise and prepare it for long-term development. According to Hoffstein, the process was difficult but "interesting" and motivating.
Ubisoft has confirmed the 7th year of support and announced new materials, including the Survivors expansion. Other games of the company have undergone a similar transformation, such as Rainbow Six Siege and For Honor, which were able to grow from failed starts into stable projects.
The release date of the expansion is not yet known.
