T-Minus Zero Entertainment, opened in 2023 with the support of NetEase, ceased to exist as part of cost savings and risk reduction. The studio was developing a third-person MMO in a science fiction setting until funding was stopped.
The team managed to create a playable demo project, which was reportedly well-received by NetEase management. The game showcased a unique "Godzilla"-style fantasy, where players could fight giant monsters in epic city battles.
This is the third Western studio closed by NetEase since 2022:
- Jar of Sparks — closed 7 months ago, founded in 2022, led by four Halo Infinite developers
- Marvel Rivals US Team — closed 7 months ago, helped create the popular MOBA Marvel Rivals
- T-Minus Zero Entertainment — closed, founded in 2023, led by Rich Vogel
Despite this, NetEase reported a revenue of $14.4 billion in 2024 and continues successful overseas projects, including Diablo Immortal, as well as publishing Activision Blizzard games in China. The company is also responsible for the mobile shooter Destiny Rising, which has received positive reviews.
