Although critics have mostly praised the project, SteamDB data shows a weak commercial start. On the day of release, the remake gathered a maximum of 19.6 thousand simultaneous players, while Phantom Pain attracted more than 91 thousand on PC. In the first weekend after the premiere, there was no increase in activity, as with most major projects.
PlayTracker, Gamalytic, and VG Insights estimate sales on Steam at around 218 thousand copies. Considering that PC accounts for approximately a quarter of sales (the brand is stronger on PlayStation), the remake's sales may remain significantly below one million copies across all platforms.
User reviews also signal moderate interest: about 3 thousand on Steam, 3.4 thousand in the PlayStation Store, and only 150 in the Microsoft Store. If the trend continues, Konami may face a serious challenge: to recoup years of development and hundreds of employees, several million copies of Snake Eater must be sold.
