In recent months, Cregger has revealed details about the rhythm and tone of the film, emphasizing that the picture will be as faithful as possible to the atmosphere of the games. In an interview, the director stated that viewers will feel like players:
"I'm a big fan of the games. I've never seen a Resident Evil movie. I think fans of the film franchise may not be ready for what I'm doing. But fans of the games will definitely be delighted."
The film unfolds in the worlds of Resident Evil 2 and 3, following one main character from point A to point B, gradually plunging into real hell. Cregger adds:
"Playing thousands of hours in Resident Evil, I understand how the rhythm unfolds. It's inherently cinematic, and I'm sure you can make a great movie in this world."
The director emphasizes that the picture will be original, in the spirit of his previous works, but on a much larger scale than "Barbarian".
"The franchise itself is incredibly flexible. The action of the 2nd and 3rd parts takes place in Raccoon City, and the 4th is somewhere in Spain, and it seems like it's the past, but it's not. And the 7th part is something like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", and the 8th is some ancient European village. The games don't even have a specific lore, it's not rigid."
