Many users are already receiving emails warning of the risk of being blocked if they share their account with people who live at a different address.
Premium Family allows up to six people to watch YouTube without ads, but officially all members must live together. Until now, the service has not been too strict about this rule, although it has conducted some checks in the past.
Now, the company is sending notifications about logins from different locations and stating that the account may be frozen. Two weeks after the warning, users lose Premium and are left with regular ad-supported viewing.
This policy has caused dissatisfaction among subscribers. Many are demanding that the plan be renamed to "Home Plan" to more accurately reflect the terms of use. It is not yet known in which countries the restriction is in effect, but the number of complaints is growing rapidly.
