Recently, Austin Grossman, writer of Deus Ex, gave an interview to PC Gamer. The creator spoke about Elon Musk — a few years ago, the entrepreneur drew a parallel between COVID-19 and the plot of Deus Ex, in which an artificial virus was created, used to maintain power and control the population.
The author of the Deus Ex story is not happy about such a fan:
"...political subtext and social satire are really a common feature of Deus Ex and Dishonored. That's what Elon Musk likes, to a creepy extent. It fits creepily into his worldview. So maybe that's the longest and worst legacy."
For Austin, Musk is not comparable to either the protagonist or the villains presented in the game:
"It's strange that Elon Musk doesn't realize his real place in the Deus Ex universe, because it's not in the role of JC Denton [the main character...] I would say that Musk is like a villain from Deus Ex, except that there are no villains in the franchise who were such whiny and self-aggrandizing fantasists as he has shown himself to be."
