The developers of the strategy game Broken Arrow have presented a development diary dedicated to balance issues. Studio Steel Balalaika decided to share some data with the community, as well as talk about their vision of the rating system.
In Broken Arrow, the starting rating value is 300, and in the early stages, players receive more points for a win than they lose for a defeat — this approach helps to "quickly rise to the average rating level and leave the lower range only for beginners." The higher the user's game level, the faster they will advance, but at high ranks, the bonus disappears and everything will be decided by skill.
Based on the results of 656,149 matches, the following indicators were recorded for faction victories:
- US Faction – 48.97% wins (321,348 matches).
- Russian Faction – 51.03% wins (334,801 matches).
The developers of Broken Arrow analyzed the data and concluded that "the game balance between the factions is currently at a good level." They explained that the current difference of 2.06% in 656 thousand matches "fits within the acceptable statistical deviation for multiplayer games and does not indicate a clear advantage for one of the sides."
