Back in 1995, the Virtual Boy tabletop portable gaming system was released. This was positioned as the first console capable of displaying stereoscopic 3D graphics.

It was not a commercial success, and Nintendo ceased its production and game development in 1996. In total, the Virtual Boy received 22 games. One of the reasons for the failure was the high price, limited game library, and discomfort that users experienced with prolonged use.

But during the Direct broadcast, Nintendo employees announced that this console will get a second life as an additional accessory for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can already pre-order the plastic version of the Virtual Boy accessory for $99.99 (approximately 8-9 thousand rubles), and the cardboard version for $24.99 (about two thousand rubles).

This “new” product will include 14 games: Mario's Tennis, Galactic Pinball, Teleroboxer, Wario Land, Red Alarm, Jack Bros., Vertical Force, Mario Clash, Golf, Virtual Bowling, Insmouse No Yakata, Space Invaders: Virtual Collection, V-Tetris and 3D Tetris.

To enjoy these projects, a Nintendo Switch + Expansion Pack subscription will also be required. The Virtual Boy accessory is scheduled for release on February 17, 2026.
