The Claws of Awaji DLC for Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but initial reviews are alarming.
Reviewers gave the expansion an average score of 69%, which is interpreted as "the game is good, but without revelations." Media representatives praised the dynamic boss battles, the darker tone of the story, an interesting two-dimensional section at the beginning, as well as a "worthy conclusion to Naoe's line." The improved rhythm of interaction between Naoe and Yasuke compared to the main campaign was also positively received.
"The new weapon mechanic slightly refreshes the combat," critics noted.
But the downsides turned out to be more serious. No new weapons were added for Yasuke, visually Awaji Island is almost no different, and "excessive filler quests" drag out the playthrough. Many reviewers emphasize that despite several successful ideas, "the expansion does not move the series forward, but looks like a familiar continuation without a real update."
The situation is even worse on Steam. The DLC received "mostly negative" reviews — only 24% after 180+ opinions. The reason is not only the controversial content. Users are massively complaining about a technical bug: many simply cannot activate the DLC, which was supposed to open for free as part of the game already purchased. The failure became a key factor in the rating collapse.
