The new Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds ad brings back the atmosphere of the marketing wars of the 90s. 30 years ago, Sega and Nintendo competed much more fiercely than they do today. Their advertising campaigns often contained mutual digs and taunts, sometimes in frankly rude forms.
In a recent video, Sega decided to recall this period. In the video, the company mocks Mario Kart, comparing it to a turtle and an outdated car, while Sonic is presented as a symbol of ultimate speed, like a racing car for records.
Today, September 17, 2025, the demo version of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launches. You can try the game on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch consoles, and on PC in Steam and Epic Games Store.
Sega also showed an example of an old advertising campaign where SNES was depicted as slow and outdated, while Mega Drive was contrasted as much faster. The new video is a direct reference to those times.
