Frictional Games, known for psychological horror games, has announced that sales of the Amnesia series have exceeded 5 million copies. This is an important milestone for the Swedish studio, which has been creating unique, terrifying products since its founding in 2007.
"The Amnesia franchise has reached an incredible milestone - over 5 million copies sold worldwide! A huge thank you to everyone who has played and supported our games over the years," the company said.
Especially impressive is the success of the first project in the series, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which was released without the support of a major publisher and sold 36,000 copies in the first month, and 1.36 million units in the first two years. This brought in revenue of about $3.6 million with a production budget of only $360,000.
In addition to Amnesia, Frictional Games created SOMA, the Penumbra series, and continues to expand its portfolio, exploring new ways to immerse players in psychological horror.
The studio has announced a collaboration with Abylight Studios to bring some of the games to the Nintendo Switch, which will further increase the accessibility of the projects.
