Grand Theft Auto is popular in different regions.
Capcom is known by many for the Resident Evil and Monster Hunter franchises, but it also worked with Grand Theft Auto — helped publish Rockstar games in Japan.
Recently, fans of the franchise drew attention to the data that appeared on sales of the GTA trilogy in the country:
«According to Capcom documents discovered by Game File , GTA 3 sold 290,000 copies in Japan. This happened in 2003, when Capcom released the game in that market. This is two years after its [global release]. Similarly, GTA Vice City was released in Japan 2 years later than the rest of the world. From May 2004 to March 2005, 390,000 copies were sold.
[...GTA San Andreas] was released in early 2007, that is, a long time after its release in other countries in October 2004. Nevertheless, by the end of March, its sales exceeded 430,000 copies».
