Not all "early access" projects become successful enough to be completed.
In 2019, Of Ships and Scoundrels was introduced on Steam. The game was developed under the early access program, but at a certain point, studio Korion Interactive stopped releasing updates.
In September 2025, the developers announced the end of support and the cessation of sales on Steam:
«The reason [for stopping the sale of the game is] that we are, unfortunately, forced to stop further development of the game. Due to lack of funding, we can no longer continue working and complete the project to the extent that it deserves and that we all strived for.
We are very sorry, especially to those of you who supported us in early access and hoped for the full version. Your trust means a lot to us, and we are disappointed that we cannot meet your expectations. We, as a team, are also saddened by this ending […]».
In Of Ships and Scoundrels, players were invited to take on the role of a fleet commander and embark on a journey "fighting enemies and so-called friends, and sometimes making dubious alliances." The islands were generated procedurally, so the adventure was unique for each player.
