According to the studio on social media, Expedition 33 was awarded the title of "Breakthrough of the Year" at the Japan Game Awards during the Tokyo Game Show. The category was only created last year.
"It's a great honor to receive an award at the Japan Game Awards. Expedition 33 was inspired by many amazing jRPGs that we loved since childhood. Being recognized in Japan is a very important and personal recognition," — wrote the developers on platform X.
"Without a doubt, our dream has come true. We drew inspiration for Expedition 33 from our favorite jRPGs from early childhood. We are honored that the Japanese audience appreciated our work. In the future, we will try to give unforgettable experiences to fans around the world," — added the authors upon receiving the award.
At the awards ceremony, 16 awards were mainly received by Asian developers. The main prize went to Metaphor: ReFantazio (Altus), the award for game design went to Indika (Odd Meter, publisher 11 bit Studios). Full list of awards:
