In Russia, attention continues to be paid to the regulation of the gaming industry. Recently, State Duma deputy Yana Lantratova initiated a proposal to introduce a 10% excise tax on the sale of foreign games.
It is assumed that if the excise tax is introduced, the proceeds will be directed to the "fund to support domestic digital content." This will redistribute resources in favor of national developers, weakening the economic dominance of foreign products and contributing to the creation of a safe media environment, free from ideological aggression.
In addition, Lantratova proposed to enshrine in law the concept of "national video game" and provide for such projects tax and infrastructure benefits, grants, exemption from excise taxes, etc.
According to the deputy, the problem of destructive content in the children's and youth environment requires "...not separate prohibitive measures, but a comprehensive, multi-level strategy. It should combine legislative, economic, organizational, and cultural ideological tools. The goal of this strategy is not only to block harmful materials, but also to create a positive, developing media environment for the younger generation."
