Splash Damage has firmly established its name in the history of online shooters. The team has been part of Leyou since 2016, and after five years ended up under the control of Tencent. It has now become known that the studio has been acquired by private investors and is no longer subordinate to Chinese owners.
GamesIndustry.biz contacted the British developers. Splash Damage confirmed the data and added that they will work under the same leadership. So far, this is all the studio is ready to report.
As a reminder, Splash Damage was founded in 2001. The studio gained worldwide fame thanks to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Later, the team created the projects Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Brink and Gears Tactics. The last public project was Transformers: Reactivate, announced in December 2022. In January, it became known about its cancellation, as well as a wave of layoffs in the studio.
Time will tell whether Splash Damage will be able to develop its own projects after leaving Chinese control.
