The author of the YouTube channel bandercoot conducted a game investigation. He decided to study the entertainment industry of Night City from Cyberpunk 2077.
For example, local TV features the show Safe and Sound (made by the NCPD police themselves) — the main characters, dogs, teach children basic life skills: how to survive a cyberpsycho attack and how to properly interact with the police.
There is also adult content: Execution Time — a show in which prisoners are executed live, and viewers can vote for the method. There is also the "Bushido" trash film franchise. There is a line of arcade games, including the Roach Race runner with Roach and the Trauma Drama action game.
According to bandercoot, all this is a "small distraction" compared to the ultimate entertainment — braindance, a technology for recording digital sensations transmitted directly to the brain through special cybernetic implants. Thanks to this, the client can experience the full range of emotions and sensations of the recorder.
These forms of "entertainment" show the normalization of violence, as well as the commercialization of various aspects of life.
bandercoot considers entertainment in Night City not only as a means of escaping reality, but also as an instrument of social control — corporations understand that if the population is constantly chasing the next entertainment, it will be less likely to create problems:
