The Octopath Traveler series has effectively changed the face of 2D jRPG games, introducing the HD-2D style. Following the success of the two installments, the Square Enix team is preparing to port the mobile story to consoles, completely restructuring the framework to give the small project a grand scale.
In December 2025, Octopath Traveler 0 will be released, serving as a prequel to the first two games. The new title will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
Studio Dokidoki Groove Works is actively preparing for the premiere. At Tokyo Game Show 2025, a gameplay fragment lasting just over 18 minutes was showcased. The video demonstrates the effort put into ensuring that the game retains the spirit and principles underlying the Octopath Traveler series.
