Borderlands 4 has a hidden quest called Forgive Me. It refers to a long-standing joke by writer Sam Winkler.
In 2022, the creator wrote on social media:
"Dark Souls revolutionized games in that now instead of a story you can just add some dude with a huge sword named \"Myrmidon of Loss\" who says with his dying breath \"Zanzibart, forgive me\" and 20 YouTubers will make an hour long video about how deep your lore is."
This humor raised questions among FromSoftware fans, and the writer then responded to the negativity, asking those who were unhappy to "learn to laugh at what [they] love."
