The comparison shows the differences between the updated versions and the previous releases.

According to video analysis, Super Mario Galaxy in particular is receiving its first official update since the Wii era. Unlike the first part, which had already been adjusted through 3D All-Stars, Galaxy 2 has been changed minimally — with almost no edits to textures or assets. The main differences concern resolution and performance. On Switch, both games run at 1080p with a fixed 60 fps, while Switch 2 delivers native 4K at the same frame rate. On Switch 2, there are slight bands on the image, which may be fixed by a patch.

For comparison, the Galaxy 1 version in 3D All-Stars mainly retained the original Wii assets, providing only increased resolution, without texture changes. The new release shows how simply improving the resolution greatly changes the perception of the game. On Switch 2, the improved clarity emphasizes details that were not noticeable on the old hardware.

The collection includes several features for player convenience: a new Assist Mode for beginners, an updated interface, and an unlockable Storybook feature. Control options have become more flexible: buttons, sticks, and motion control via Joy-Con are supported.
