Recently, players in World of Warcraft Mists of Pandaria Classic have been complaining about various technical issues and oddities. Memory leaks, glitches in character settings, missing items, and more have been observed.

Producer Tom Ellis explained what happened with WoW Classic:

«It was a really weird morning. If you logged into Classic MoP US in the morning, you may have noticed... some strange things. In short, during the weekly maintenance, a new client and new server code were installed to fix several bugs. QA tests and approval of all these changes took place several days before they were put into operation, and then we prepared these changes for automatic implementation.

Somewhere along the way, we managed to launch a new client, but not all of the corresponding server code. This led to a "protocol violation" (imagine that these two elements no longer spoke the same language, similar, but different enough to cause... confusion), and the client was now reading useless data from the server. It was doing everything it could, but as a result, there were memory leaks, a very unusual mix of different races and character customization options, and other strange problems...»

This is not the end of the list of World of Warcraft problems. The producer also noted that for a while, the current WoW and Classic stopped interacting with Battle.net, which led to a block on logging into the game.

Tom also shared other information — he made a typo, which created additional difficulties:

«We still can't figure out what it was, but by the time people started to understand the situation, [the games and service] were acting like best friends again, as if nothing had happened. Oh yeah, and character creation was blocked again in Classic US due to a typo. Oops, and also, since it was a cursed Tuesday, when I was turning off US Classic for an emergency reboot, I also managed to miss turning off the AU worlds due to a missing "." in the filter».
