In a recent post on X, he noted:

"It's probably a good time to remind people that making games faster and cheaper while charging more for them has never worked."

Vincke did not specify which situation he was referring to, but two events have occurred recently that could have triggered such a reaction: the acquisition of Electronic Arts by private investors for $55 billion and Microsoft's sharp price increase for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The post's edit history suggests that he was referring to the former situation. Initially, Vincke wrote more directly, mentioning "people in the gaming industry," and added, "I don't understand why they think [this strategy] will work now," but this sentence was later deleted.

Although the message is vague, users quickly connected the dots and discussed the EA deal.

"One can assume that large investment companies that buy up game studios don't care about the quality of games at all. The main thing is profit. If they can save money by firing employees and speeding up development at the expense of quality, they will do it instantly," wrote MarkOfTheDragon.
