Hideo Kojima said that the 1970 World's Fair in Osaka was an event for him without which Metal Gear and Death Stranding would not have appeared.

He recalled how a childhood impression shaped his worldview and creative approach. As a schoolboy, Kojima lived near the exhibition site and visited it many times.

«I saw with my own eyes “the future and harmony of the world. I could shake hands and say hello to Taro Okamoto, Sakyo Komatsu, Kenzo Tange, Kisho Kurokawa, Junko Koshino and Hanae Mori. It was like meeting aliens».

According to the developer, Expo-70 became the border between his personal "before" and "after."

He noted that the true value of the exhibition was not only in technology, but in diversity.

«Expo showed the coexistence of countries, races, religions, traditions and history. It was the embodiment of “past and future”, “peace and harmony”».

Kojima emphasized that without this experience, he would not have developed a global and futuristic mindset, which means that his iconic series would not have appeared.
