Creative director of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Guillaume Broche, stated that Sandfall Interactive's next game may not be an RPG. The developer emphasized that he does not want to limit the team to one genre, style, or type of storytelling.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 became one of the most successful indie games of 2025. The project sold over 5 million copies and received critical acclaim, with many calling it a contender for "game of the year."
After such success, fans expected an announcement of a direct sequel, and Sandfall has hinted at it more than once. But, according to Broche, the studio's new work may turn out to be completely different.
"We don't want to be tied to a specific story, visual style, or gameplay in what we do next," the director explained in an interview with The Washington Post.
He added that Sandfall's future project will be sincere and created with love, but at the same time, the team wants to maintain the freedom to choose the form and genre. Broche did not rule out that the next game might still be an RPG, but stressed that this is far from certain.
