"Real action games don't get old" - and Ninja Gaiden 4 should prove it. AUTOMATON spoke with game directors Masakazu Hirayama from Team Ninja and Yuji Nakao from PlatinumGames to find out what to expect from the new installment in the series.
Ninja Gaiden 4 is the first major sequel in 13 years. The release is scheduled for October 21, 2025, and the project is designed to unite the old school and a new audience. Hirayama noted that he wants players to enjoy the "pure action" that has always been the hallmark of the series. According to him, the essence of the game is in the feeling of being a ninja, in the dynamics and honed movements.
Nakao believes that the project is capable of bringing back the interest of veterans of the genre. In his opinion, the demand for linear, classic hack-and-slash games has not disappeared, despite the fashion for hybrid formats.
"There are many old action series that are still relevant. I am sure that such games are not outdated, and Ninja Gaiden 4 will appeal to everyone who misses pure combat drive."
The developers note that when introducing modern trends, they managed to preserve the essence of the original.
"Team Ninja and I constantly discussed the details, but we didn't make any compromises - the basic formula remained untouched."
Ninja Gaiden 4 will be released on October 21, 2025 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
