The Yooka-Replaylee remaster from Playtonic Games makes a strong impression on Switch 2, becoming one of the most notable technical upgrades in the genre. The game reinterprets the 2017 original and includes numerous graphics improvements.
On the new console, the project received a significant visual leap: textures, lighting, and environment have been reworked, small details such as realistic hair, improved water reflections, and increased detail of locations have been added. If on the first Switch the game ran at 900p and 30 frames (with drops to 600p in portable mode), the Switch 2 delivers 2160p (upscaled from 1440p) in docked mode and 1080p (upscaled from 900-800p) in portable mode at a stable 30 fps.
Playtonic has also updated animations, physics, and enemy behavior, making the controls smoother and more responsive. Hitboxes have been recalculated to make movements and battles feel more natural. The authors reworked the levels from scratch, eliminating the main problems of the original - boring tasks and an excessive amount of dialogue.
The stages have become more compact, new areas and improved cutscenes have been added. Updated controls and new abilities make the game more modern, but without losing the spirit of classic 3D platformers. As a result, Yooka-Replaylee feels fresh, reminiscent of the best works of Rare during the heyday of the genre.
The game was released on October 9, 2025 in digital format on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2.
