Walter Maurice Hauser, father of Dan and Sam Houser, has passed away. The news was published by the fan account The Absurd Report on X.

"Dan and Sam Houser's father has passed away. Dan mentions at the beginning of his book A Better Paradise that it happened while he was finishing the novel. 'To my father, who died while I was finishing this book, and to my mother, who together with him taught me to love books.'"

Walter Hauser was a lawyer in the West End and played the alto saxophone. In 1971, he married British actress Geraldine Moffat, known for the original version of the film "Get Carter" in 1971.

Both of Houser's parents appeared in Grand Theft Auto games. Walter played a small but memorable role: in GTA IV, he plays the saxophone on the streets of the city. If you approach him and give him $10, the player restores health, and after three times receives a ringtone with Sonny Rollins' 1956 jazz hit "St. Thomas". Similar music is also heard in The Ballad of Gay Tony on radio Integrity 2.0 by Lazlow Jones.

Dan Houser did not reveal the exact date and circumstances of his father's death.
