It turned out that there was significant demand for classic Resident Evil games.
In 2024, GOG released the original Resident Evil (1996). Subsequently, RE 2 and 3 were also introduced on the service.
During a conversation with The Game Business, a GOG development manager revealed that Capcom was initially against such a release.
According to Marcin Paczynski, Capcom believed that remakes were sufficient. However, GOG representatives did not give up and insisted that there was a community of players interested in the original Resident Evil games.
The release showed that there was indeed demand for such games, and it even exceeded expectations:
«When we released [Resident Evil] on GOG, the reception was simply phenomenal. 94% positive reviews for all games. This was also reflected in sales. It proved that the game has its audience. The classic versions, the ones we all remember from childhood, are still very valuable.»
