Ninja Gaiden 4, one of the most anticipated slashers of 2025, will be released on October 21, 2025. The game will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC simultaneously, and thanks to a collaboration with Microsoft, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass from release.
It seems PlatinumGames has not let us down. Despite the current embargo, two publications—Digitaleanime and Justplayit—published reviews ahead of time, noting the style, dynamics, and attention to detail. According to them, the developers managed to combine the intensity of the classic parts with modern, smooth gameplay, creating one of the strongest slashers in recent years.
The ratings confirm the impressions: Digitaleanime gave it 9.5/10, Justplayit—8.5/10. Critics praise the complex fighting style, the combination of speed, precision, and brutality, the variety of weapons, the combo system, and PlatinumGames' signature smoothness, intertwined with the legacy of Team Ninja. The visual aspect impresses with a dark cyberpunk Tokyo, and the soundtrack combines Japanese motifs and electronic music. The game is stable at 60 fps even at peak moments, the "Purgatory" mode adds content for challenge lovers, and the various fighting styles of Ryu and Yakumo increase replayability and accessibility.
There are also downsides: critics were not satisfied with the monotony of some locations outside of Tokyo, camera issues in tight spaces, difficult combos for beginners, and repetitive enemies in the final stages of the campaign.
But the first impressions leave no doubt: Ninja Gaiden 4 has a chance to become one of the strongest slashers of the current generation, combining technical skill with the familiar harsh atmosphere of the series.
