Sega has introduced Sonic Racing: Crossworlds, a game designed not only for fans of Sonic and arcade racing. It features many heroes from other franchises of the publisher, including unexpected guests.
The project was released last month, and Sega plans to develop it as a long-term service. The game will receive free and paid updates throughout the year. To attract a wider audience, the developers have added characters from Minecraft, SpongeBob, as well as Ichiban Kasuga from the Like a Dragon series.
Creative Director Masaru Kobayakawa admitted in an interview that he understood that Yakuza games are designed for adults. Despite the doubts of the Ryu Ga Gotoku studio, Sega insisted on Kasuga's participation, having obtained the consent of the series' authors.
The vocaloid Hatsune Miku also became an unexpected character. Her participation was the result of collaboration with Crypton, which actively helped with the design and selection of music. The PJ Onsoku music team suggested focusing on fast tracks to emphasize the dynamics of Sonic.
