Mod enthusiasts have a new reason to worry.
Bethesda recently announced the Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition. Fans of the studio's games, using Skyrim as an example, have already seen what can happen to game modifications upon re-release, so some are already sounding the alarm.
Members of the Fallout game modification community recently discussed the potential threat of the F4 Anniversary Edition to mods.
Players shared tips, suggesting to opt out of updates:
Connect_Stay_137: Just disable automatic updates in Steam and don't launch the game from there [use F4SE] until enough time has passed for modders to update enough modifications
Strontam: be sure to set the manifest file [in properties] to "Read Only"! This is the most important step. This file is steam/steamapps/appmanifest_377160.acf
ProjektRED: Just rename the game folder, adding the version number to the end. In any case, you will have to use skse or f4se to launch the game. The Steam update will only look for the folder with the original name. If for some reason the program tries to perform an automatic update, it will try to download the entire game again (ignoring the renamed folder), but you can always pause the update and delete the new folder.
