Computer repair specialist Northridge Fix stated that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition is one of the worst-designed video cards in history. According to him, the model has too many fragile and miniature parts, and the lack of spare components makes repair almost impossible.
The specialist warned users against buying the Founders Edition version. The main problem is a fragile connector on the board, which is easily damaged even with careful disassembly.
But the 16-pin power connector is not the only weak point of the RTX 50 series. The RTX 5090 FE has a miniature printed circuit board built into the center of the heatsink. This forced NVIDIA to arrange the elements in an unusual way — the PCIe interface and I/O connectors turned out to be in inconvenient places, which made the design extremely vulnerable to any modifications.
The master received a card whose owner tried to install water cooling. After that, the GPU stopped working. An inspection revealed that the PCIe connector was damaged during reassembly: one contact was bent, the other was broken. Because of this, the video card completely failed. It is impossible to find a new connector — it is not sold separately, and even a professional service will not be able to replace the part.
The specialist summed it up harshly: "RTX 5090 Founders Edition is one of the worst projects I have ever seen. Don't open it if you don't want to lose the card forever." RTX 5090 FE impresses with its power, but in case of failure, there is no chance of repair — it is an expensive trap for enthusiasts and modders.
