Former Vice President of Licensing at Konami, Christopher Bergstresser, revealed that Kojima received an offer to create a game based on the film before its premiere.
"The Wachowski sisters were big fans of Kojima. Kazumi Kitaue, Kojima, Aki Saito (who still works with him) and I were at Konami headquarters when we got a call to meet with Kojima. And they did!"
The meeting took place, but the then-CEO of Konami did not approve the project, although the directors had their own concept artist and presented ideas to the developer, as Kazumi Kitaue wanted Hideo Kojima to focus on creating a sequel to Metal Gear Solid. This does not mean that their relationship ended.
A former Konami employee, who wished to remain anonymous, noted that Kojima was very interested in a game based on "The Matrix", and his team was upset about the cancellation of the collaboration. Later, Kojima admitted that "The Matrix" influenced Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.
