Amazon has officially ceased development of New World. Four years after its release, the game, conceived as a "World of Warcraft killer," will no longer receive updates or expansions.
The company announced the decision on the fourth anniversary of New World's release on PC. The official statement emphasized that it was an "incredible period created together with a dedicated gaming audience," but after "four years of regular updates and a launch on consoles," the team has reached a point where further development is impossible.
Season 10 and the "Night Haven" update were the last major releases for PC and consoles. As a token of gratitude to the community, both expansions—"Night Haven" and "Rise of the Angry Earth"—are provided free to all PC players.
The servers will remain active until the end of 2026 so that players can continue their adventures in Aeternum. New World: Aeternum will be available for download via PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium.
The creators thanked the players, calling the collaboration an "unforgettable journey" and expressing gratitude for years of support and enthusiasm. Thus, Amazon concludes the largest MMO, which failed to change the genre but left a noticeable mark in the history of game services.
