The release of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection was supposed to be a celebration for fans of the series, but instead of nostalgia, it caused a storm of criticism. Players complain that the collection lacks key network functions — it has neither public nor private lobbies.
Currently, the only way to play online is a quick match with a random opponent. You can't invite friends, which has severely impacted the competitive community and fans of online battles. Many have refused to buy it.
YouTuber Mike Hollow noted that most Mortal Kombat fans have already grown up and can't just get together with friends at home — they need convenient online tools.
Additional outrage was caused by the fact that developer Digital Eclipse and publisher Warner Bros. Games announced the complete absence of lobbies only 12 hours before release.
"This is unfair to players who pre-ordered without knowing these details," wrote blogger J Gleez, reminding that such features are considered a "standard of the industry for the last 20 years."
The situation is aggravated by the lack of crossplay. In the official FAQ there is a "coming soon" section, but there is no word about plans to add joint play between platforms.
"Another Mortal Kombat without basic features at the start…" — fans write on social networks. Although Digital Eclipse promises updates, the community is confident that a series of this magnitude deserves more.
