Electronic Arts' deal with Saudi Arabia is causing concern in The Sims fan community. There is an opinion that after this, the developers may abandon some of the game's "diverse" elements.
The Sims designer shared his vision during a conversation with FRVR. Charles London believes "diversity" is critical to the franchise.
He explained that The Sims sends players "signals" that regardless of who they are and what they feel, they can be themselves in the world of The Sims:
Its appeal and recognition of the fundamental truths of our humanity create an empathetic and emotional connection with this game that makes it so powerful [...The Sims] is much more than just a game, it's a means of self-expression. That's why I think [diversity] is critical, especially in times like these
