Shantae is one of the most recognizable indie platformer series. A bright, musical, and humorous story about a genie has captivated retro gaming fans for two decades.
From its early days on the Game Boy Color to modern consoles, the purple-haired heroine has become a symbol of classic adventures, with each new game adding fresh locations, transformation forms, and dynamic boss battles.
During the LRG3 2025 presentation, WayForward officially confirmed the development of the seventh installment of Shantae. This was announced by creative director and co-creator of the series, Matt Bozon, who noted that "details will have to wait." According to the developers, the project is in its early stages, so there will be no materials in the near future, but the team promised to do something special.
Although platforms and release date have not yet been announced, the news has caused a stir in the community. Previous games — Shantae: Half-Genie Hero and Shantae and the Seven Sirens — have been recognized for their hand-drawn animation, charismatic characters, and 90s-style gameplay.
