PlayStation 2 remains one of the most influential consoles in history. With over four thousand games, a colossal cultural impact, and millions of fans worldwide, it has become a symbol of its time.
But over the years, access to the original library has been limited to physical media, and preserving the classics has become increasingly difficult. Now, the situation has changed — the PCSX2 emulator supports over 99.5% of all PS2 games, marking a milestone in video game preservation.
Now, almost the entire console library is fully compatible with PCs, ensuring stable operation and accurate emulation. The only exceptions are four games: Final Fantasy XI, DRIV3R, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, and World Series Baseball 2K3. Considering the complexity of the PS2 architecture, this is the result of over twenty years of work by enthusiasts.
Modern versions of PCSX2 offer not only compatibility but also improvements: increased resolution, support for HD textures, multiplatform support (Windows, Linux, macOS), and local multiplayer. Version 2.4.0 added a split-screen mode, making older games even more convenient.
The developers emphasize that using the emulator is legal if you own your own console and BIOS.
