Sony has published its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2025, noting steady growth in the Game & Network Services division and new records for PS5 and exclusive games. The company confirmed that Ghost of Yotei has sold 3.3 million copies, and total PS5 shipments have exceeded 84.2 million units.

Revenue for the gaming division and services for July-September amounted to ¥1,113.2 billion (~$7.42 billion), which is 3.9% higher than the same period last year (¥1,071.5 billion). Operating profit decreased by 13.3% to ¥120.4 billion (~$0.80 billion) due to one-time write-offs related to Bungie and Destiny 2, including ¥31.5 billion (~$0.21 billion) for Bungie's intangible assets and ¥18.3 billion (~$0.12 billion) for capital expenditure adjustments.

Hardware sales remained stable: 3.9 million PS5 units and revenue of ¥230.9 billion (~$1.54 billion). Software sales increased to 80.3 million copies, of which 6.3 million were first-party games. Digital sales amounted to ¥268.3 billion (~$1.79 billion), physical sales to ¥35.4 billion (~$0.24 billion), and additional content brought in ¥299.8 billion (~$2.00 billion).

The PlayStation Plus network segment showed a growth of 13.6% to ¥182.7 billion (~$1.22 billion) with 119 million active users. Ghost of Yotei became the main success of the first tier - 3.3 million copies in 32 days. ASTRO BOT reached 1.5 million, Helldivers 2 - 12 million, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and God of War Ragnarök - 10 million and 15 million copies, respectively.

Sony attributes the revenue growth to the strength of digital content and subscriptions, although after the Bungie write-offs, the company notes the need to improve profitability. With stable PS5 shipments and upcoming holiday releases, Sony expects to meet its forecast: ¥4,470 trillion (~$29.8 billion) in sales and ¥500 billion (~$3.33 billion) in operating profit by March 2026.
