The story with the GTA 6 delay continues to cause a wave of reactions - from criticism to jokes. Guinness World Records also distinguished itself, publishing a post on the day of the postponement announcement about the longest development cycle in the history of games.
Some decided that this was a hint at GTA 6, but in fact the record refers to another game. Currently, it is Duke Nukem Forever with 14 years and 43 days. Guinness clarified that the record is counted not by the time between releases, but by the actual development - from the start of work to completion.
Although more than 12 years have passed since the release of the previous part, Rockstar Games claims that full-fledged development of GTA 6 began only in 2020, when most of the team switched to the project. Probably, preparation started earlier - in 2018-2019. Even if the game is released in 2026, the total development time will be about 8 years, which is far from record figures.
But the Guinness joke still worked - fans are sure that the wait already feels like a world record. After the leaks, the long break between trailers, and the new postponement, players can only wait.
