Paradox Interactive has announced the release of the Thrones of Blood expansion for Triumph Studios' strategy game, Age of Wonders 4. This new pack is dedicated to the vampire theme and introduces a unique vampire ruler, blood magic, and ominous castles, allowing players to embody their darkest fantasies.
The expansion is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S and is the first DLC from the Expansion Pass 3, with two more to be released in 2026.
Thrones of Blood unlocks new powers for vampire rulers, new skill trees with dark magic, a Vampire Castle instead of a Wizard Tower, the ability to turn heroes into vampire servants, and ritual spells that use slaves as magical fuel. The expansion includes three new magic tomes, story quests about Lost Souls and the origin of all vampires, new maps with the Land of Darkness and Roses, Gothic Ancient Wonders, the dark energy of Blood Glass, wild creatures—hordes of Spiked Fiends, Blood Worm, bats, as well as new music, interface, and world settings.
The free Gargoyle Update was released simultaneously, which improves training, adds new forge and Pantheon options, and reworks the Dark culture with a focus on cults of evil. The expansion transports players to the far reaches of the Astral Sea with forgotten kingdoms and forbidden powers.
The Expansion Pass 3 also includes Cosmic Wanderer with a new ruler, costumes, items, and traits, and the following DLCs, Rise from Ruin and Secrets of the Archmages, will be released in 2026 with new cultures, magic, story quests, and realms.
