Sony commented on the situation surrounding Marathon from Bungie, which, after a series of failures and weak tests, has come under the close scrutiny of investors.
At the latest financial conference, Sony stated that if the project launch is unsuccessful, necessary adjustments will be made.
According to information from Lin Tao, the company's financial director, playtests were conducted from October 22 to 28, 2025, with the participation of 80,000 players. The results were unsatisfactory, especially in terms of gameplay and user engagement.
Initially, Marathon was scheduled to be released in September 2025, but due to mediocre reviews and a plagiarism scandal, the release was postponed. Tao noted that the Bungie team is "actively working on the project," and the game is now scheduled for release in 2026. It was also confirmed that Marathon remains one of the key projects for the studio.
Sony remains cautious. If sales fall short of expectations, the company will consider the possibility of "appropriate adjustments" to improve the project and achieve success in the market.
