Magic: The Gathering's lead designer, Gavin Verhey, has been working on video game crossovers for a long time and hopes for new projects, placing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 at the top of his wish list.

In recent years, MTG has collaborated with popular franchises, from Fallout to the record-breaking crossover with Final Fantasy. The Universes Beyond program allows creating brand sets from any area of entertainment, but Verhey's attention is now focused on one game.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has become one of the main sensations of 2025 and is nominated for multiple "Game of the Year" awards. Verhey would like the game to get its own MTG set. He notes that creating the Final Fantasy set was a huge job: 16 games, each with 40+ hours of gameplay, had to be condensed into one set of cards, while maintaining integrity and balance.

"This year's Game of the Year, right? It would be great to make a set based on Expedition 33"

The designer explained the choice of video games for crossovers:

"Gaming brands are a great fit for Magic. New players immediately understand the rules, mana, and goals. The potential is huge, and I hope for new projects in the future. We've already seen Fallout, Warhammer, and hopefully more successful collaborations will appear."
