This year, a paid expansion, Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, was supposed to be released for Borderlands 4. It was included in the premium editions, but Gearbox decided not to sell the DLC.

Bounty Pack 1 was decided to be made free and given away to all Borderlands 4 players. The developers admitted that they did not have time to add all the planned content:

Since this is a themed "New Year's" expansion, we understood that we had to release it before the end of the year. However, the team realized that there was not enough time to add everything that was originally planned to Bounty Pack 1, without slowing down the release of improvements for Borderlands 4.

Owners of premium editions of Borderlands 4 were reassured — the game will receive a «Bounty Pack 5» expansion in the future, which will be included in the editions (details about the DLC are not yet available).

The developers stated that they are "working hard" to ensure that future DLCs of this format are filled with "the exciting content that players have been asking for."
