Now enthusiasts will be able to study the source code officially.
Recently, the Zork franchise was remembered again. Microsoft has opened the source code for three classic projects.
It is noteworthy that the materials were already presented on GitHub by an enthusiast in 2019, i.e. all this time lawyers had the right to file a request to remove the code, if there was such a desire.
Zork is a text adventure, the first part of Zork 1: The Great Underground Empire was released in 1978. In subsequent years, Zork 2: The Wizard of Frobozz and Zork 3: The Dungeon Master appeared.
The Zork source code is distributed under the MIT license, and now everyone can officially familiarize themselves with the "insides" of the games. Rights to trademarks, etc. still belong to the corporation.
Previously, the rights to Zork went to Microsoft as a result of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
