The new game costs $20 in the US, $5 more than the original. At the same time, Silksong is larger and was created over about six years.
The low price surprised many developers. Team Cherry are "cool and just giving away their game," colleagues noted, because for most indie studios such a balance of price and scale would be impossible.
One of the studio leaders, Ari Gibson, explained:
We try to set game prices at a reasonable level. And we have a habit of increasing the amount of content to a large size. It was inevitable that what we created would become a full-fledged game.
Initially, Silksong was planned as DLC for Hollow Knight, but the project grew and as a result, the main character Hornet got her own game. Gibson added that the choice of the $20 price was logical: "Yes, $5 more, sounds right."
