According to the resumes of former employees, Eidos Montreal has canceled the project to revive the Legacy of Kain series.
According to the resumes of gameplay director Samuel Dair and associate design director Stuart Wheeler, the studio underwent layoffs and the cancellation of several projects a week earlier. Among them was a fantasy action RPG with an emphasis on melee combat and parkour, focused on reviving a well-known vampire brand — likely the Legacy of Kain remake.
In 2024, the re-release of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered for Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC showed sales above expectations. The collection offered high-resolution textures, modified models and effects, a photo mode, an updated camera and controls, as well as improved performance.
The cancellation of this project casts doubt on the future of the franchise, despite the successful remaster.
