Helldivers fans are skeptical about Justin Lin's appointment as director of the film adaptation. Lin is known for the "Fast & Furious" and "Star Trek Beyond" movies, but he is not a gamer and has never played Helldivers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter:
Lin is not a gamer and leaned into that in his approach to the material. He is looking to find the humanity in the characters and weave in current themes into the story, building out the world and mythology. There are many details waiting to be revealed, which is interesting to the director.
Fans expressed their dissatisfaction in the official Helldivers Discord community. Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani supported Lin:
Let Justin Lin work his magic. I trust Justin. He did a great job with the "Star Trek" movie.
The question remains whether Lin will be able to understand the essence of the game without personal experience.
