There will be no new PvE missions in the near future.
Recently, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller gave an interview to esports.gg. During the conversation, the interviewee noted references related to the new heroine Vendetta.
Some characters may say the following phrases when Vendetta is killed:
- Reaper: "Misfortune must run in your family"
- Reaper: "End of the line"
- Cassidy: "After all these years, I'm still cleaning up after Reyes"
This has led to theories in the Overwatch 2 community that the developers are planning to return to releasing PvE missions.
The game director refuted this:
We don't have any plans to go back to Retribution or add anything like that to the game in the foreseeable future. But I also like the reference to that mission, because it's tied to Vendetta's story. And that's one of the things that I'm particularly excited about with this hero is how connected she is to the rest of the world and the lore. Because that mission not only involved her father, but also the heroes of Blackwatch.
Aaron Keller continued:
Now she's connected to the rest of the Talon organization. Working on a hero with such deep connections to the world has been really interesting. And of course, [Senior Narrative Designer] Jude did a great job. Looking to the future, I think that's the direction we'd like to move in — when we introduce new heroes to the game, make them part of the existing world and lore, or use them to move the story forward and reveal new aspects of it.
