The Care Esports Cup for the fighting game Tekken 8, in which elderly esports athletes participated, was recently held.
The oldest participant, Reiko Yokota, was 95 years old, and her opponent was 92-year-old Hisako Sakai.
Reiko played as Jun Kazama, and Hisako decided to take Claudio Serafino. As a result, the 92-year-old gamer won and became the champion of the tournament.
Care eSports Association periodically holds such Tekken tournaments for residents of nursing homes aged 60 - 90 years. The organization was founded in 2019 to give elderly citizens of Japan a new way to communicate with others during the pandemic. It all started with leisurely board games, but then the fighting game Tekken 8 was included in the list of activities.
